About

My name is Jón Bjarni Hjartarson. Born 1981 on the Westman Islands in Iceland and moved to Denmark at the age of five. I studied Photography in the years 1999-2003 in Copenhagen, after which I worked as a freelance photographer and photography assistent. In 2014 I wrote my Bachelor degree in literature and art history, illustrating different modes of realistic representation in french modernistic literature and how they coincide the later development of photographic strategies of representation. In 2017 I finished my Masters degree in literature and cultural studies, exploring modes of autofiction in contemporary Scandinavian literature and photography. My photographic practice mainly consists of explorations of public spaces and people in urban environments. That being empty cityscapes, capturing people or fragments in the public sphere. What interests me is by part the introverted personal stories and expressions, and by part the way we, as a society and individuals choose, or are forced, to conform to these spaces.
